JAY-Z, the legendary rapper, has been crowned the greatest rapper of all time by two of the biggest names in the music industry, Billboard and Vibe. In celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary, the two publications joined forces to create a list of the Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time.

As the list progressed, notable names such as Kanye West, André 3000, Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube, Rakim, LL COOL J, Black Thought, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Lil Wayne, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, 2Pac, Nas, and Kendrick Lamar all made appearances. Billboard and Vibe acknowledged JAY-Z’s immense commercial success, critical acclaim, cultural impact, and entrepreneurial spirit. JAY-Z’s 24 Grammy Awards, 14 No. 1 albums, and 140 million record sales are only part of what makes him the greatest of all time. His longevity, breadth of accomplishments, and impact on Hip Hop for the past three decades truly set him apart.

The news of JAY-Z’s victory caused quite a buzz on social media, with fans and supporters showing love and appreciation for the Brooklyn-bred rapper. However, not everyone agreed with the ranking, with fans of Eminem and Tupac outraged that their favourite rapper was not named the greatest of all time.

JAY-Z’s latest recognition comes on the heels of another disappointment at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Despite receiving three nominations, JAY-Z lost in all categories. Nevertheless, he still left a lasting impact, closing the ceremony with a powerful “God Did” performance alongside DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, John Legend, and Fridayy.

In an interview with TIDAL, JAY-Z stated that his performance at the Grammys was not only a responsibility to Hip Hop but a blessing. He said, “We owe that to the culture, and it ain’t even a burden. It’s a blessing. It’s easy and fun.”

JAY-Z’s status as the greatest rapper of all time, as recognized by Billboard and Vibe, solidifies his legacy as a true icon in Hip Hop. His musical talent, cultural influence, and business acumen have made him a legend, and his crown as the greatest rapper of all time is well-deserved.
